28 Day Song Challenge – Can You Hear Me Now (Day 24)

Yes, I’ve always wanted to have a song with an answering machine intro. Now I can check that off my list!

Also got to kick it with my talented friend Jarell Perry tonight (www.jarellperry.com), fresh from the studio. He’s doing the singer songwriter thing right now and filled me in on what it’s like trying to make it in the industry – and what it’s like making good, not shitty, music. Awesome hanging out again man, keep doing big things!

28 Day Song Challenge – One Way Flight (Day 23)

Alright, so it’s not exactly a one way flight, but I am heading out to Colombia next week and won’t be back for a little while. Why not make a song about it right?

But for real, one of these days when I get better at this music thing, I will definitely make a good “up in the air” song. Plane flights have bookended some of the most important moments of my life. I’ll do it justice one day. Not today though haha.

28 Day Song Challenge – People Always Talk feat. Otavio (Day 22)

Another collaboration with Otavio (http://blackmarket.limewebs.com) – but this time, no imitation club bangers or Eva Longoria’s. Just two acoustic guitars. Mostly.

Tried to mix things up a little bit and add in a key change for the chorus. I think it kinda works. I love the “oh’s” in the background though. Wish we could’ve messed around more with that, but when you have to make a song a day, you don’t have too much extra play time.

That’s one thing I can’t wait for when this challenge ends: actual time to keep working on a song and POLISH it. Imagine that huh? Just a few more days…

28 Day Song Challenge – Sprinkle Accordingly feat. Yazmin (Day 21)

Got to unexpectedly team up with my friend Yazmin on this one. She invited me out to watch her do some spoken word poetry in Hollywood (she’s pretty damn good too). After the show I asked her if she wanted to help me finish a song and even though she’s never rapped before, she was completely down.

We pretty much made this entire song in the Hollywood & Highland Center parking garage (4 hours with validation baby) so forgive us if it’s a little rough. But big props to Yaz for helping me score free validation, you tricky devil you!

28 Day Song Challenge – Come Back Home Acapella (Day 20)

Here’s a little secret: I’ve always wanted to be in an acapella group. Even before Glee made it cool. I always pictured myself harmonizing on a street corner with a group of old men in hats, people walking by like we did that every day. Yeah, that would’ve been tight.

Unfortunately, this is probably the closest I’ll ever get to that dream. Me singing with 3 other versions of myself about getting caught cheating. Damn, not even one-tenth as cool. I couldn’t use autotune either, so sorry for the shitty singing and the NSFW-ish bridge haha.

28 Day Song Challenge – Cheers, Slangte, Kombe (Day 19)

Yup, today I’m officially another year older. Believe it or not, but I’m actually typing this out right after coming back from my birthday celebration. It was an epic night filled with crowded dancing and dead car batteries. And pizza throwing, a lot of pizza throwing.

But I digress haha, we actually were smart enough to make this song before we headed out for the night. I teamed up with my roommate Liam Humble for this one and we literally finished this song 30 seconds before we rolled out. We had a blast with doing it and even got our buddy Kyle Hill to contribute some vocals. We both made this track in record time (one take Liam!) so hope you guys enjoy. This past year has been absolutely amazing to me and I wanted to express it a little bit in this song. Peace, bday boy’s gonna get some sleep!

28 Day Song Challenge: Expect Much More (Day 18)

Tried making this one as quick as I could. I really had no idea where I was going with this song, it just kinda went. Thanks to BC for giving me ideas for the progression. Been having fun with all these synthy instruments though, more to come soon!

By the way, I’m digging these songs right now:

Childish Gambino – Freaks & Geeks
LMFAO – Yes
No Insurance – Better Than You
Madcon – Glow
